Everyone is expected to pitch in with the site\u2019s upkeep in some way, even if it\u2019s just a small contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How can I help out?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are Work Parties throughout the year (dates to be confirmed) where we do things like clear paths, repair boundaries, plant hedges, and tidy plots. It\u2019s a great way to meet people and usually ends with a friendly lunch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What about the Trading Hut?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trading Hut is open Saturdays &amp; Sundays, 10:00\u201312:00 in Spring and Summer. We sell compost, manure, canes, plant food, and other essentials. You can pay by card, and in winter we\u2019re trialing a \u201cclick-and-collect\u201d system\u2014email your order to arrange pickup. Volunteers are always welcome to help out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How is the Committee elected and contacted?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Committee members\u2014Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Rent Officer\u2014are elected at the AGM in March. For any queries, email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk\">info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s the Community Plot about?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The award-winning Community Plot is used by groups on Tuesdays (general maintenance &amp; skills) and Thursdays (Mencap). Volunteers are welcome to help, water in summer, or join one-off projects. <a href=\"https:\/\/whetstoneallotments.co.uk\/?page_id=2\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2\">Community Plot<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">^<a href=\"#top\">Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Standards\">Standards &amp; Inspections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are the cultivation standards?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>By late spring, at least 50% of your plot should be under cultivation or clearly prepared for growing. New plot holders should aim for 30% in year one, and up to 50% in year two. Ponds and areas for storage or entertaining don\u2019t count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are there other standards?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes! Health &amp; safety, structures, and paths:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plots should be safe\u2014no broken glass or dangerous materials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Structures: only sheds, greenhouses, polytunnels, fruit cages, and compost heaps (approval required). No decks, pergolas, or treehouses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Paths: at least 50cm wide, safe and clear. Older plots without paths are exempt.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When are plots inspected?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Inspections happen in early spring and late summer\/fall, judged against the standards above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">^<a href=\"#top\">Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"using\">Using Your Allotment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What do I need to do on my plot?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep it cultivated, weeded, and safe. Mulching, composting, and small raised beds are recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What can I grow?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Mainly vegetables, herbs, fruit bushes, and dwarf fruit trees (max 3m, 1m from boundaries). Flowers and small ponds are fine. Hedges and fences aren\u2019t allowed; beans on canes can provide privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I keep bees or livestock?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. We already have three beekeepers, and the site can\u2019t support any livestock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I bring my dog?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes, but dogs must always be on a lead or in a secure run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">^<a href=\"#top\">Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"fires\">Fire &amp; BBQ Rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I have a fire?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fires are allowed only during specified periods and must always be attended. Consider wind and smoke direction. They might be a plotholder or Committee member. If in doubt, email&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk\">info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What if there\u2019s theft or vandalism?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Call 111 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency) first, then inform the Committee at&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"mailto:info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk\">info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why should I lock the gate?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To help prevent theft, vandalism, and fly-tipping and to ensure parking on site is limited to members. Always lock it when arriving and leaving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">^<a href=\"#top\">Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"facilities\">Site Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>When is the Trading Hut open?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturdays &amp; Sundays, 10:00\u201312:00. Small actions, like trimming overhanging branches, help the whole site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why is water turned off in winter?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To prevent frozen or burst pipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">^<a href=\"#top\">Top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"relinquish\">Plot Changes &amp; Relinquishing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I pass my plot to a friend or relative?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. If you need to relinquish your plot, it goes back to the Committee and will be relet from the waiting list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>I\u2019m giving up my plot\u2014what do I need to do?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Email the Rent Officer via <strong><a href=\"mailto:info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk\">info@whetstoneallotments.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;to arrange key return and check your plot is tidy. You can sell your own tools or shed privately, but not via the Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I appeal if asked to give up my plot?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Yes.
